Statement: This piece was create for a challenge to depict why the sky was blue. After researching the factual and folkloric explanations of why the sky looks blue, I decided to make up my own legend. I decided that the sky was blue because one day the "moon beaver," being the mischievous critter that he was, decided that the sparkling blue waters of the oceans were just too tempting and inviting. So he decided to jump into the forbidden waters in one big cannonball splash. This splash was so huge, that the water splashed all the way up to the sky with the water droplets sticking to the sky and turning it blue, which was a good thing because now the Moonbeaver would not be tempted to do another cannonball, since he now could live in his pretty blue sky.
